If you go down to the woods today...

You’re sure to see our youngsters having fun!

The pre-school class are well used to nature, with outdoor play in our nature garden, but today we went even further afield to the excellent Yarner Woods, where we went on an adventure all to do with birds.

Our guide, Andy, started by telling us all about some of the birds in the woods, and how much fun it is to watch them through our binoculars (or just by holding our hands up to our eyes!). We went on a walk in the woods to see what we could find.

We found lots of great stuff, from moss to ants, and sparrows to woodpeckers. We made our own nests for a ping-pong bird that we made up (it is definitely yellow and orange), and then went and found things for the chicks to eat.

We went in a real bird hide, and watched as the birds came to eat. Then we went back to the classroom and made our own birds living in a tree, using card, paper, and crayons.

No day in the woods is complete without splashing in puddles, playing with sticks, and climbing up the hill to the throne, so we did all those too!

What a busy day!
